Sept. 30 – Oct. 4, 2019

The leadership retreat for women in design.

Applications closed.

Within 2019 Retreat:
Emerging Leaders

The Emerging Leaders retreat is designed for senior makers up to leaders with 3-4 years of management experience. This creates a community of peers, allowing for shared experience and programming tailored to your career phase.

All of our retreats include design leaders across product, brand, research and writing, across many industries and types of organizations.

We welcome all womxn and non-binary folks.

What is Within?

Within is the retreat for women in design. While the word retreat may conjure up images of a vacation, this is no vacation. It’s also not a conference. It is an intentionally designed space and community for taking a step back, gathering with your peers, and reconnecting to your inner resources.

What to expect

The experience

Going Within is nourishment for your creative soul. We see patterns in the root challenges design leaders face in this career phase, and we tailor our programming to enable emerging leaders to take flight.

All of our retreats are built around four pillars: exchange, discover, create, connect. This means daily yoga and meditation, hands-on making, leadership workshops, and time to connect with other emerging design leaders.

Yoga + Meditation

Accessible to all levels, guided yoga and meditation are grounding practices that bring everyone into their bodies and create a shared foundation for the day.

Creative Workshops

Think of it like maker therapy: hands-on, in the flow, creating beauty. Past creative workshops have included hand lettering, shibori dying, patch making, and wall hangings.

Leadership Workshops

The leadership workshops will focus on building self-awareness through our design leadership profile, cultivating a relationship with your Inner Critic and Inner Ally, and learning and practicing the fundamentals of coaching. Coaching Circles from past retreats have continued long past their time at Within.

Fireside Chats

Our evening chats are open and vulnerable conversations on topics that are familiar yet rarely spoken  about with such candor. We invite a handful of design leaders to kick off each night’s discussion based on their experience with the topic at hand, such as belonging, resilience and authenticity.

Diversity Fellowships

Diversity fellowships are key to achieving Within’s purpose.

Thanks to InVision, Jon Lax, Underbelly, and Webflow, we’re excited to offer 5 fellowships to the Within Emerging Leaders Retreat.

Applications due April 15, 2019.

Paradise Valley, Arizona

Mountain Shadows resort is nestled at the base of Camelback Mountain, and on the edge of the Sonoran Desert. The stunning landscape is the most biodiverse in North America, ripe with the energy of renewal.

The resort brings iconic 1960s luxury and design into a modern context. With open grounds and perfect weather, the environment invites you to breath deeper and dream bigger.

Nearby towns of Paradise Valley and Scottsdale offer quiet residential streets. And with clear skies and almost no light pollution, every night is a starry one.
