Diversity Fellowship

Diverse teams and inclusive workplaces build better products and businesses.

Like the majority of the tech industry, design suffers from a lack of inclusive and diverse organizations. Research shows how bias results in discrimination in educating, hiring, promoting, paying, and funding underrepresented people in tech. However, research shows that diversity increases success. The goal of the Diversity Fellowship is to increase inclusion in design by providing educational opportunities more broadly.

For the 2020 Spring Retreat, we have a total of four fellowships to hand out to deserving womxn and non-binary folks. The fellowship will cover the cost of the registration fee, including hotel accommodations, food, and all activities.

Fellowship recipients are responsible for travel to and from our destination, including transportation to and from the airport.

We’re looking for individuals who:

  • Are professional creatives in brand design, product design, writing or research fields

  • Are a member of the following underrepresented groups, including but not limited to people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+

  • Would be unable to attend due to a financial barrier

  • Aren’t afraid to pursue their dreams in the face of adversity

Applicants should identify with an underrepresented and/or marginalized group working in design and technology.

To apply for a diversity fellowship, complete the application below. Please note that all information will be kept strictly confidential and used for fellowship selection only.

All applications must be submitted by November 12, 2019.

Diversity fellowships to Within Emerging Leaders Retreat are made possible by the generosity of Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Shopify.

Want to encourage diversity in design? Fellowships are partner-driven. The more support that we receive from companies and individuals, the more fellowship applications we’ll be able to approve. If you’d like to sponsor a diversity fellowship, get in touch.
